That is so cool! I love Pelvicachromis, they are on my list of fish for my community tank once it's ready. A few more weeks, can't wait!
Btw: Your tank is beautiful!
Yay, here's my dad with his fry! I got lucky and caught him out in the front of the tank with the fry. He quickly moved them back into his hiding spot, but at least I managed to capture the fry on video for a few seconds!
Thanks! I was so surprised to catch the fry at the front of the tank. I just grabbed my iPhone and caught a quick video before they went back into hiding.
You can see where he normally likes to hide the fry and why it's been so hard for me to get a picture of them. He loves to keep the fry in that spot.
Absolutly an amazing aquarium. I would love to have one half that nice. I can only imagine howmuch time and effort go into tending for that aquarium. Simply astonishing. I know who im contacting if I ever start up another Live Plant aquarium!!!
Thanks! That's really nice of you. But to be honest, that tank didn't take much time at all. The key is to finding plants that light the tank's environment. From there, they just grow. Get a good substrate and stick plants in. That's really all there is to it.

whatever you make it sound so easy. Lol. You will still be contacted if it happens.
I'd be happy to help. It actually is easy. There's just a few basics to get started, but they're pretty easy to do. I know it's possible to get all wrapped up in a zillion details, but they're not truly necessary. Even my 5g planted is just a plain unmodified Eclipse style tank, and it grows plants just fine.
The 5g is almost no maintenance. I have about a dozen nano fish and a red cherry shrimp colony. I try to do 50% water changes every week, but I sometimes skip weeks. When I had just the shrimp in the tank (no fish), it went for months without a water change. The bioload was so small with the shrimp that the plants kept things in check. But with the fish, I think it's best to keep up with water changes.
I just got a really good look at the fry! It looks like there's probably 30 or more! The dad had them at the front of the tank, and he let me look for a little while without shooing them away into hiding. They're looking really good!
Mom is on the other side of the tank. I've figured out which cave she's using. Dad is not allowing her to take part in raising the fry at all, but at least she's able to get out and eat a little. I'm still hoping that dad will come around to allowing mom to eventually reunite with the family. Maybe as the fry gets older.
The fry are at least 8 days old as of today. I don't know how long they were free swimming before I first saw them. But 8 days is still a very good sign! I think these might actually make it!
