  • One thing leads to another and another and another...

So I decided to do a water change on my 75g last night. Opened it up to get it ready, but decided it was early enough to go ahead and do a water change on my 90g.

Got to looking at my 90g canisters and decided they needed to be cleaned. Thought I'd do a really quick clean... 2 hours later, finished a very thorough cleaning of the tank, canisters, intakes, and all. Decided to do the 75g water change this morning.

Back at the 75g to do the water change, but then decided to go ahead and clean the canisters on it, as well.

Then the impeller on my Eheim broke. Not to worry, I had already bought a Rena XP4 to replace it since I knew the Eheim was getting old.

Cleaning out the media, I find its full of snails. I decide to switch to the coco-puffs while I'm at it. That means cleaning out the old stuff and cleaning the new stuff. There's lots of dust in those coco-puffs! Fortunately, I have lots of buckets.

Start taking the hoses off and the quick disconnect breaks. Great. Now I have to cut the hose which makes it too short so I need to replace it. Might as well replace all the hoses while I'm at it.

That means taking off the UV Sterilizer. Doing so, I discover it's full of snails. Can't get it apart. After a long struggle, I finally get it apart and clean it out.

Remove the hoses and then the U-tube for the intake breaks. Ugh! I hope I have a replacement!

All the intakes and spray bars are full of algae so might as well clean the while I'm at it. They're soaking in a bucket of bleach.

So I've cleaned out two canisters, am replacing one canister, switching out media, replacing hoses, replacing hardware, cleaned out the uv sterilizer, cleaning out all the intakes and all, and who knows what else... all because I was going to do a water change! Gotta love this hobby!

Yay! At least the XP4 installed without a hitch. Connections went on easily, it primed without a fuss, and it started up immediately without any problems.

Maybe tomorrow I'll get that water change finished.

If I had dollar for every time I've had stuff like that happen....... It probably wouldn't hurt my feelings so bad when it would happen.

Man don't worry it hpnds to everybody, just the other day I got in brand new parts for my 2217 from bigals.com and I was putting it all together and I broke the return nipple off the top. So now I have to replace the whole top lol!

            Hopefully your waterchange goes well!:)

Yup, it's the nipple that I broke, as well. I went ahead and ordered new parts to replace what broke, and then I'll sell the Eheim. I ended up not liking having different brands of canisters so this was in the plan all along (which is why I had the XP4 on hand already), but I hadn't planned on doing it this way.

Got my water change done. Yay!

I went ahead and cleaned out the other filter and other piping, cleaned out the cabinet, and put both canisters in buckets just in case of leaks (a rare occurrence, but the buckets really saves the wood cabinets when they happen). So now it's all cleaned out.

Next I need to clean out the plants in that tank. I'm trying to decide if I want to do that tonight or save it for tomorrow. I don't think there's anything left to go wrong so it should be an easy chore, but you never know! LOL!
