  • And then there was the Re-Scape on my 240. Nex-5 pix

thanx to "barrettsline" i found me some new rock. Holey rock was nice for the past year, but i was ready for something dark so that the fish would stand out that much more. They charged me for 200 lbs, but after washing and then weighing the rock in groups I came up with a hair over 300LBS. The largest one was 97Lbs, and was a BEAST to get in there with out hurting the glass. I still had my buddies NEX5 camera so i took some shots.

Looks great Eric! Heck, you could put clown shoes in there and it would still look good

Not the "clown shoes" ha ha

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I still cannot believe how much of a change the rocks made. Gave the tank a more" serious" look.

Here go shots from last week. I didn't even really think I was gonna go through the scape change.

Looks really good! It's funny because I just changed from a similar scape. But I see a difference in how you're doing it that I like. Rather than piling up a bunch of smaller rocks, you're putting in fewer large rocks. It fits the size of your tank very nicely without making it look cluttered while still showing off the fish.

I'm curious if you've noticed any color changes in the fish with the darker rocks?

Yea, I'm not no kind of into interior designing. Yeah I did choose the larger rocks or at least what I could find. I did a lot of shuffling and picked a better looking rocks out of the group. I wanted to go with more rocks on one side than on the other so it wouldn't look so cluttered like you were talking about. I was really worried about the fish not having places to hide but I tried to make enough caves and they seem happy with there new home

And about the color changing. I was hoping with the darker setting the fish would darken up and color up a little more, but I did not really notice a difference. But like you said with these darker rocks they seem to pop out more in a more vibrant

What really pops are your red and yellow colored fish. They are incredible! I especially like the red. The tank colors really show them off very nicely.

I gave up on the idea of my fish hiding out in caves in the rocks. The only fish that did that were the fry, and they didn't need a mound of rocks for that. Even worse, I almost never saw my 3 plecos or 7 catfish. So I'm getting away from the big rock pile, having just switched to rounded pebbles of different sizes (although, mine are looking somewhat "piled" up at the moment). I'm trying to see if that helps bring the fish out more.

The fish I'm having the hardest time getting to come out are fish with red coloring which is one reason I love them in your tank so much. Mine tend to get chased into hiding, but your tank and beto's tank gives me hope since I see you both have beautiful red fish swimming out in the open. I just need to keep working on it until I get it right for my tank.
