    Re: Neon puffer

I have one in my brackish tank. He started off aggressive, but now he does not bother the spotted puffer, scats, gobies, chromides, and gulf killifish that share his aquarium. I purchased mine at Fish Ranch three years ago as a "green puffer", but now they sell them as "green bottle puffer" and "freshwater triggerfish" depending on the tank they are in. They are not picky eaters; flakes, shrimp (frozen, dried or live), live snails, bloodworms, pellets, nightcrawlers are all eaten with eagerly. I think they are Chonerhinus naritus. Mine is currently 2 inches long. Very nice fish.

        3 Years and it's only 2" long....talk about a slow grower I guess.

Not sure which one it is, either Chonerhinus naritus or Xenopterus naritus. Here's the FishBase summary:

          "Millennium hand and shrimp!"

That's the one! Actually, mine may be a little larger than previously mentioned. The caudal fin is clear, giving the impression that he is smaller. He has only grown slightly in length in the three years that I have had him. City Pets used to have them before, as "bronze puffers", and the late Aquamart once had them as "avocado puffers"
