    Lamprologus ocellatus

    I am hoping at the end of August or early September to have cycled and readied a 20g (long) tank for a Shell Dweller setup.  I am looking specifically for Lamprologus ocellatus and I am hoping someone here know where I can pick some up.    If not who would you suggest I turn to, to order some in.
    If necessary I am thinking about driving to Dave's Rare Fish in San Antonio (end of August when I have a week off, but to do that I would need to find someone else to go with me as I hate driving long distances alone..)

    What fish do Jesper have
    180 WC T. Moorii Chilambo +1 Petro trewavasae.

    Daves does have them....cichlidfan and i purchased 3 from him back during the auction he brought them to us.....they are still in an isolation netted area for they are still toooo smalllll to join the tank community yet...and they are slow growers so beware if they are little be sure to ask dave if they are small....and when he says small he means small..... 8O

      They will be going into a 20 long that I am creating just for them.   Right now my roommate is carpentering a stand for my 29g and 20g to sit on stair step style.  (I will take pictures when done).  The 29g is for my pink convicts so make more room in my community tank, because all the rest of them are being chased from about 1/3 of the tank because the pink convicts are holding on to their fry.

      Over the weekend I bought 60 shells, so they will have places to hide.  I am wanting to get 6 of them, hoping to get some locally here in town, but maybe if Dave comes to the HLA auction I might just travel there and pick them up.  If he does not show I am thinking of traveling to San Antonio and picking them up there.

      I am thinking about getting Tropic Isle Tahitian Moon Sand and blend it with some pool filter sand, figuring the black and white would look good, or should I go with just all Tahitian Moon Sand.   Maybe someone could tell me if they think this is a good idea or not.

      I dont care if they are slow growers, they are going to be the only fish in the tank, so they will not be endangered by others.

        Eco-Complete makes a Cichlid Sand, don't they? It's mixed black and white.

          i bet dave doesnt come to the hla auction.if you are going to sa just for fish,you should wait and go to fotas.good speakers and

            Dave came for the HLA auction this summer, and I am hoping he might come this way again on August 26th.  I will need to call him this week if I cannot secure some locally.  Going out tonight to get some sand so I have that squared away for the tanks to go up this week.

                JugHead... you are more than welcome to some of my pink convict fry when they are transportable, ie think late September (then they will be 3 months old)

                In that case I am going to have to call him and see about ordering some and potentially travel to San Antonio to pick them up (unless I can get someone else to do it for me)  I found 4 Ocellatus at T&T reptile tonight, but they want $20 a piece...  That is a little more than what I wanted to pay for them.

                I am going to start making some phone calls tomorrow to different dealers here in Houston to see if they have any at a lower cost than these.

                I am thinking about calling Mike @ Mike's Tropical Fish and see if he carries any and if not how much to order some in for a box member.  (this gives me an excuse to go out there to see his store.)

                  How would L. Speciosus share a 20G with L. ocellatus ?  or should I go species only tank ?

                    you shouldnt mix them.if your heart is set on gold ocellatus,hunt them down.speciosus was called black ocellatus before
                    it was formally described.good pictures on cichlid forum.gold ocellatus can be aggressive towards each other,in my experience,
                    in a 20,the biggest male will make the other males unhappy.i usually kept them as single pairs.i also have some young signatus.i was just pulling your leg about the convicts,although they are a lot of fun.have a good one,rob.

                      Hmm my gold occies havent been too agressive with each other ( i need to move them to a bigger tank though so they will start to pair up and they really are slow growers, i need to move my vittatus too so they can have room to breed again, maybe my brevis too, i love my gold occies though they look incredable i got them at Extreme fish and pet on bellaire for like 8 bucks a pop but i bought all 13 that came in lost a few over time down to like 9.
