All the ferns and stuff that aren't heavy root feeding from good substrate seem to have dark or strong roots and rhizomes.

How do I plant it? I just took it out of a piece of driftwood. It was stuck in there with that wool crap

Anubias can be tied to driftwood with some thread or fish line, the plant will eventually take root and attach itself to it. You can also plant it into the substrate if you like but try to keep the rhizome exposed or as close to the substrate surface as possible to keep it from dieing off.

+1 to EK, anubias and java fern are both epiphytes and can treated the same way although anubias takes longer to root into wood. i used to mount them with aquarium sealant or sewing thred.
