Hi all, new here. Question: I have a small 15 gal desktop planted tank. For some time now even without fish I had been doing water changes in case I ever did add some fish. Well last night I went to PetSmart (I know, I know) and bought 3 small Jewel cichlids hoping to get a mating pair and go from there. [Years ago I had a quite large pair that laid eggs all the time in a 20L but always ate the eggs.] Anyhow, this AM I put some food in, to get the accustomed to my presence and hopefully eat the food I gave them. They all did well happily. Then, right before lunch, I added some more food, and I noticed 4 fish eating! 8O Now, as I said earlier, I only added 3 jewels, ... the extra fish was a firemouth.
I checked my files on this tank, and I did add 2 firemouths back in July of 2006. I removed one dead firemouth in Sept of '06 and never saw the other, so I just always figured that it had also died beause I never saw it come out once so I haven't been putting food into the tank for months!!!
Now here is my quandry, ... what will happen, socially? Will the resident firemouth bea the crap out of the newly added jewel youngsters? The firemouth is not at all big, by any means, but still, it has apparently been in the tank over a year now. Should I remove the firemouth now before things start getting heated?
Please, any thought you have, ...
