i'm going to throw you a thank you too Tim, just cuz i missed this thread til now and it was killing me to read it! and i thought i had it bad while i was whining about my filter and two co2 systems dying over the weekend! incidently, mineral oil works as a lube on the barbs and if its okay for bubble counter fluid then i am sure a little of it wont hurt aquaria. also that braided hose is really great but if its too tough put on then you can get a size whose ID is the same or slightly bigger than your filter hose's OD and slide sections of it on where the filter hose may kink. i did that this weekend myself.
