  • Question about wild caught tropheus

I was just wondering what y'all thought about wc trophies holding and still eating at the same time any thoughts about that I have one chimba I'm for sure 100% is holding since Monday but she still eats and I can see her mouthful and juggling the eggs ..

    Any comments would help...

      Normal, that's a good thing.

They don't eat as much but I have notice females that scavenge when holding tend to spit larger fry. Females that don't eat while holding get really malnourished and take longer to bounce back after spitting.

Some don't bounce back and die.
I ate my fish that died.

The worse is they swallow and then die.

I'd probably wait after a few weeks before stripping her. You can strip her earlier, but you will need a tumbler - and survival rate could drop.

Why not let her spit in the tank?

If they are fronts you might as well strip her.

The ikola are nice, I'm a zaire fan myself

If you're afraid to strip, why not seperate her and let her spit in a different tank? You have demasoni in there, so they might eat the fry. Some people say trophs don't eat fry, but I've seen and heard otherwise. I always strip my females after about 15 or 16 days. The babies aren't as big and hard to strip. Could just be my demasoni, but whenever I did let the females hold full term, I never got over 7 fry. When I stripped a little earlier, I always got at least 15. Thinking as the fry get bigger, the mom swallows some.
