    the problem with leveling the tank by using foam underneath is that the tank is designed to bear its weight on the edges. these edges (assuming there is a frame) may sink into the foam and then cause the weight to transfer to the bottom pane of glass. thats not good. i have used eggcrate before and it works well. some use it across the entire bottom but i try to use it only where needed to limit the possibility of anaerobic pockets being created.

        Eggcrate on the inner side of the trim to level or make a flat surface
