  • Petro question

Alright, my Ikola colony of 26 is starting to get feisty at 3-3.5". They're great looking fish but there are only yellows in my tank (26 ikola, 4 orange mwela comps, and synodontis). Would it be worth tossing in a single 3-4" red bulu male? I've used dither fish in the past with my nyererei tanks, but how well does it worth with trophs? Figured if I add anything, may as well add some extra color to the tank. I'm not sure of my ratio yet, no fish is really getting hammered yet.

Any thoughts? Also, anyone trying to get rid of an extra red bulu male, I'll probably be interested.

    Thanks

    How big is your tank?

Depending on size, the petro may interfer with breeding.

55gal, they're being stunted growth wise but I feel still really healthy and active. They have to wait until I get a house for a new house themselves. I don't see them breeding in this size tank, it's just my show tank for the time being

Also, would a male petro even have color at that 4-5" size?

They can breed in any size tank.

No joke, I've bred tropheus in a cooler before.

The petro will have color at 4-5".....just nothing deep like a male in breeding condition and showing off.

They have 4 eheims of filtration (lame petsmart stand wont allow for a wetdry) and I do 2x weekly 70% waterchanges. So Im doing what I can to keep them happy for the moment. Would the trophs gang up on the petro? (obviously I would introduce into tank the correct way) or should I look for something closer to that 5" range

He should be good. Even as a 1" fry.

I grow petro frys out in my 125g full of tropheus.

Change more water to trick them into thinking they are in a bigger body of water.
