Are Brichardi more agressive than Malawi peacocks or Mbuna's?

        Re: Compatibility Question

I would say so, but it depends on if they are paired up and spawning too. I have other brichardi in my community 125, and they don't show much aggression towards the other fish.

Fellow Boxers .....what about it, are they?

          Re: Compatibility Question

Well the reason I was asking is because I have clown loaches (4) in the tank with my africans and the fish don't mess with them.I put the in when they were actually about an 1 1/2  and the fish were already full grown. I saw you posted that you were checking if the brichardi were to agressive for them if the brichardi are as about or not as agressive I think you will be ok adding them to your tank.

            Re: Compatibility Question

I use redtailed blue botias in my african cichlid tank to control MTS and they do a great job. Plus, they are obnoxious enough to hold their own against the cichlids and seem to tolerate hard water very well.

              Re: Compatibility Question

              I'll chime in.

Personally, I had a lone albino Brichardi in with rainbowfish and tetras... I would say that they are not at aggressive. Any type of breeding cichlid will be aggressive (especially brichardi).

The only way that I have found to get rid of Malaysian Trumpet Snails is to dry out the tank and start over! Clown loachs, botias, and puffers will keep them in the substrate for the most part as Szidlon said. I have never been able to get rid of them. My clowns were pretty big (3-4") before they relocated  from my plant tank.  Perhaps I should just ask to borrow Walter's clowns.

I am not saying that it is impossible to get rid of them - just saying that it is impossible for me!

Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

                  Re: Compatibility Question

My dwarf puffers eat the MTS, but only the babies. Ive actually seen them eat them, and you can see the tiny shells cracked on the substrate. They obviously cant tackle the adult MTS, as they are everywhere in the gravel and under the ornaments.

                      Re: Compatibility Question

We could have a little experiment and take Walters clowns away for a while and see if the MTS's are really gone.  Then afterwards, for an undisclosed amount, we would tell him the location of his clowns, maybe

                          Re: Compatibility Question

Today I went and picked up my new *dream* tank in Baytown! The girl was really nice and she gave me all sorts of stuff including gravel. I also referred her to the Box because she is looking to get rid of a pleco that outgrew her tank, and she also needs java moss. I hope she shows up here!

Anyway, some of the gravel that she gave me had MTS shells in it and she said that they were dead and that they would get calcium into the water for me if I left the shells in the gravel... I'm raising snails, so it sounds like a good plan to me! So anyway, I got home, poured the gravel in a pot, rinsed it, and boiled it on the stove for a while because I had no idea where it came from... Anyway, I was rinsing it out more after boiling it and I started picking the shells out to make it look prettier and I noticed that the shells were kinda heavy... I stepped on one and there was a cooked snail in it! Some of the snails must have been alive in the bottom of that bucket and I didn't even notice! They were BOILED alive! I guess I solved a potential problem though! LMAO!!! Anyway, that's my way of getting rid of MTS!!!

Did you taste the snails? You could have solved the puzzle as to why most fish dont eat them.

Now that is a sure fire way of getting rid of them.
