  • Otocinclus really fat?

Is it normal that oto's get a huge belly like if they have swallowed a marble?

  • #2
It could be they are feasting upon something in the tank, depending upon their age and size it could also be a female with eggs. Most breeding in tanks is accidental and without low Ph soft water never yeilds any results. How old is the fish and how long have you kept it? Water Parameters? If it is a recent addition they can also be affected with IP's, though I would wait and see before trying a treatment as they can be notoriously difficult to target

I am still surprised that with that belly, it is very active and keeps moving around.

should i expect any fry or do i need to really be picky on the parameter? There are no other fish on the tank it is only them and shrimp.

Most breeding in tanks is truly accidental and from what I remember they are very particular about parameters, but I may be wrong...

I've got tons of otos, and I've seen mine like that before, but I've never seen any babies. It could be that they've been eaten before I could see them, but I think they just never actually make it. Lots of people have them with planted tanks, but you don't hear of them breeding very often.

squeeze it between your fingers, that'll fix it.
