  • Sand substrate in a high flow tank...

Alright some of you know I am working on a new tank. It is going to be a High flow tank for Rhinogobius/hill stream loachs/white clouds. I plan on having a minimum of 15 times the tank volume per hour. So I am looking for a sand that will stay put with that kind of flow.

Tank will have two eheim 2217 and a river tank manifold with two power heads.

I am wanting to do a mix if pea gravel and sand.

not sure what params they like but aragonite comes in different sizes and it could work.

What color sand or whatever you plan on using?

Just get what you like and let the flow move the substrate and then it'll settle.

I've done much much higher flow rate and had no problems.

keep your tank maintained and it won't be cloudy.

I'm gonna try to run the surface current along the top from left to right and the bottom from right to left. I'll only have flow output in the top few inches so I'm hoping the current along the bottom will be broken up by the hardscape so that the sand doesn't move too much. I'll likely use leslies pfs.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

For some reason ADA and pea gravel doesn't sound right. I guess I'm just use to seeing aquasoil or sand substrate.
