  • 42g hex tank.... what now

If my reseal works on my 42g hex(holding water as we speak)m then what should i put into it?
Not looking for anything very expensive or anything that is too fragile (i will be gone for extended periods of time for work and my mom sister and dad will be looking after the tanks and fish... im teaching them as much as i can before i go :).

    Any ideas on fish?

I was thinking if three groups maybe(top, bottom middle), as well as a bristlenose to keep algae down. Dont want it too be agressive tank.

Oh and i will be running both UGF and HOB.

I would throw some dollar fish in it. Until your family knows a bit more about how to take care of it.

Yea that is what i am leaning toward.

Any suggestions on what would fit well into those three slots?

Maybe 3 small schools of cheap fish(Petco has neon tetras 5 for $5).

Just need some suggestions on fish so all levels of the tank have somethign going on.

The only other thong i can think of is a few goldfish and maybe white clouds

White clouds sound like a good idea, they're hardy and active. I always recommend a group of cories (6+) for bottom dwellers. They're great fish.  :)  White clouds will stay around the middle and top, it depends on their mood.

If you do goldfish, I wouldn't do tropicals. They have some different requirements.

          Thanks

          Found this site:

It gives a pretty good list. Now got to sift through, research and make some choices.

Yea the only thign i would put in wiht goldfish are white clouds, and apple snails. Well at least i read that these are pretty much only things compatible besides a few algae eaters.

Just buy some feeders for right now. They are like 15 for a dollar.
Then figure out what all you would like to be in there.
Has this tank even cycled yet?

No the tank has not been cycled.

I will however be using gravel and water form a cycled tank, as well as be switching a HOB from another cycled tank. Should cut the cycle time down a bit then i can gradualy start adding some fish.

If your using seasoned gravel, water& filter you can put fish in it in an hour.
