Ok , is it just me or are there others out there too?
When im out and i see some cool i think hmm! Thatd be an awesome HUGE tank. Or when you see something cool and you think how can i make this work in a tank or become a tank itself. I keep playing with the idea of some how making a brute 55 gallon trash can a "monster" canister filter. Lol

+1 on the canister thing ,

a true DIY'er always looks at things in a special way to see how else it could be used, lol. a true canister filter is under some pressure so sealing a brute would be hard considering the pump it would need. a wet dry on the other hand...

Wet dry would be easy....its just an open top box with some dividers. Yea the seal would be a lil challenge. But think of the media amount and how big of a tank you could filter??

the ones used at the zoo look more like swimming pool sand filters or huge lifeguard type filters. you could make the lifeguards out of 4" pipe or large home water treatment systems or use a used sandfilter as is. if i ever get the chance to make a true fish room, thats where i think i will start.

yeah you could make and excellent FBF out of one but could use them in series too for different purposes. the fine sand will trap particulates if the filter is filled up more than you would for a FBF and it would be good for chem media too. you could probably stuff one with floss too lol. imagine having three or four of those puppies in a row.
