  • Trying to get assassin sails to breed

Nothing I am doing seems to be working.

I have a suspicion however that my pit bull pleco might be eating the babies. I have seen what appears to be babies from time to time and then no adults later.

This could also be a food type issue. Please be specific when recommending alternate food.

17 gallon - Threadfin rainbows and corys lightly planted

Our assassins will eat younger offspring at a very prodigious rate. My recommendation would be to offer them something like bloodworms or sinking carnivore tablets and keep them regularly fed. I have not seen anything else eating young, but the tank always has hundreds of small juveniles and only a few make it through the guantlet of older adults.

I haven't seen very many baby assassin snails in my tanks I think the hide out in the substrate till they are large enough to not be bothered because I keep seeing more and more adults.

I transplanted some plants from my display to my snail hatchery, last time I do that. I've been pulling baby assassins out almost daily. I've gotten 8 so far, hope its all of them. I noticed a pretty big decline in my snail population. I think I got all of them, but I doubt it.

i have counted about 20 baby assassins out of the 30 eggs they laid. i read that they will hide under the substrate to hide from the parents to survive. but i had already removed the parents when i found the eggs. my babies about about the size of a 2mm nls pellet.
