He might be. I have no clue. All I know is that they were cheap so I tried them out

I dunno, I nearly got rid of those suckers when they were smaller.
They were in a 29 g and really bossy. now that they are grown out, they are more mellow. I bought then under an inch in November now they are close to 3 inches.

They do get to be big. They also color up more with age and in a planted tank. Alot of the fluviatis sold are crosses originating from different populations (each stream or river has diffrent color morphs in Austraila- all the colors of the rainbow )
Here's a link with great info. on keeping rainbowfish and where they are collected.

Cool site. Going by the pics on there mine are not fluviatus thought.

        Might be fasinensis or ajamaruensis.
The lower half of their bodies are red, the upper half if blue to purple. They have the dark strip down their middle and orange/ yellow stripes too. Then the dark edges to their fins. Sometimes the dark strip down the middle disappears (when the light is first turned on).

Got two that look like they may be Lacustris or Synergos. These are more shy, smaller and were picked on by the others. My Bosemani and turquoise ones are unfortunately gone. I think I have finally decided what I am going to do with that 55g tank. Think I am gonna stock it with rainbows. Gonna buy them in San Antonio though. Waaaay cheaper over there

Really pretty fish. I think my other fish would get self conscious and start picking on Miss Gertrude

Nice! Do they always look like that or is that particular fish flaring?

The cool thing is even if it just looks like that while flaring, the males tend to flare very frequently with other males present. My forktails even flare at their reflections all day long!

I just picked up some Gertrude's rainbowfish from HAW. Some of the males already look nice.
