  • Freshwater flounder

Is there such a thing as a freshwater flounder that would go in a tank with frontosas?

if i recall correctly flounders spawn in fresh water and then prefer more and more salt as they grow, one for fresh would be very small (1-2 inches probably) and would need to be able to bury themselves in the substrate. im not sure if they are really suitable at all, i would guess they have a pretty high mortality rate unless you go brackish

I wouldn't keep them with fronts. They don't grow big and the fronts will suck them up before u could blink

Years ago a five pounder was caught in the local resevoir. It must have been pumped in during a water transfer. I say do it. Or maybe I should.....

Usually the one seen commonly for sale are either baby Gulf Flounders or Hogchokers. Once in a while you see toungefish as mentioned in the link above and Brazilian sole.

From what I gather there are quite a few different species that occasionally are even related to each other. I believe there are some truly freshwater varieties and brackish as well as full marine. Not sure on the sizes of the full fresh, but I have seen so many brackish fish do well in tang tanks I imagine the brackish would do equally well if large enough.
