  • Oscars possibly sick?

I noticed these small holes on my oscars head, what is this?
All 3 of them have it one more than the others.
Are they sick or are these just signs of them picking on each other?

Do they also have popeye? or do oscars eyes protrude like that normally?

Hole in the head (HITH) is usually caused by poor water quality issues. It can be cured, but only with arduos and exemplory changes to your water quality. You must strive and commit to performing regular water changes. Your water parameters should never rise above a trivial amount of Nitrates (>10ppm). You must begin performing far larger water changes 75% daily until you reach 0-Ammonia, 0- Nitrite, and >10ppm Nitrates. Once you have acheived these results (you should invest into a master freshwater test kit), test the water daily and keep a log everday of your findings. As you begin to see the Nitrates rise, perform a 50% water change and continue testing. You will begin to see a cycle and you have now determined what your water change schedule is. Follow this dilligently, otherwise the fish will only get worse. Once you have acheived a solid water change schedule and have acheived optimum parameters, you can remove all the carbon from your filtration system (not really needed at all in my opinion) and begin dosing with metronidazole (Fish Zole) which is a potent antibiotic that has shown good results in treating this affliction. It will only worsen if this regimen is not followed and the drugs alone can not help as the culprit is poor water quality.

Hope this helps and if you need any further assistance please ask away. Good Luck and I hope everything works out for you

+1. Water quality is first if you want to fix it...good luck with them, hope it all works out okay!

Proper nutrition may also be a factor that needs looking at, along with your regimen of water changes and meds. What do you feed them?
