well, i go for a quick errand, come back and find one of my golden cichlid on the floor dead :(

i got two golden cichlids about 11 days ago, they acclimated very well quickly, the fish ranch person tried his best to id a male and a female but these are not easy to distinguish specially since they are not full adults yet, well, once they got settled, which was pretty much instantly, one of them decided his aim in life was to chase the other one any chance he got, i do have good hiding places so the smaller one managed to dodge him but not always, sometimes i have noticed he chases her so fast to where she almost loses balance of where she is going, neither of them bother any other fish in the tank at all, i guess he chased her and made her crazy or something because i only have a 3 inch wide, tank length opening on top of the tank in the mid section, so i didn't expect any fish to jump out, but his relentless effort paid off finally i guess, now he has the entire tank to himself, no other cichlids to share with, when i get my rams (which will be larger than him when fully grown), if he tries anything, he will be on his own little 2gallon thing or returned to lfs or something, i am not so happy with him at the moment

Sorry for your loss.  I had a Pleco pull the kamikazi move like that one time and ended up in a bucket by the tank.  It's crazy to think that they could be chased clean out of the water like that.

thanks guys, its no big deal i guess, i used to keep fish as a kid from 4th grade through high school, did not know much about fish care, learned from trial and error, and usually the strongest survived - of course i had luck with livebearers mostly, but also had a good breeding pair of blue gourami and angels for years, plus internet was not around, so made many mistakes and there was no fishbox to discuss things, i am just kind of getting back into it and now that there is so much info. and products, plus i seem to get more worried than i used to as a kid! ok enough about my life story

update - the bully golden cichlid decided that chasing his mate out of the tank was not enough, this morning as i was having breakfast, i noticed he is going around the tank and starting to terrorize the cardinals and glowlights, i thought maybe isolated because him or his mate never bothered other fish before, but he diligently and constantly did that for half hour, so i decided that he has sealed his fate, i scooped him up (after a long chase around the tank) and put him in a little container with water from the tank, i am taking him back to fish ranch, hopefully they will take him back!
