Or, sale him to someone out of state where it is legal to own an evil, genocidal, mean spirited, blood thirsty tilapia. The most humane thing to do is keep this beauty alive. FISH HATERS!!!!!!!!
Tilapia are extremely detrimental to local ecosystems. There's a local bayou that I can go cast netting for them. They are illegal to keep as pets because some idiot(s) years ago decided it'd be funny to release a few into the local waterways.

i have always frozen them, i would assume that they just go to sleep and then fade out but since they are cold blooded who knows if they actually feel anything? i usually have clove oil on hand so thats not a bad idea. would a quick violent end like chopping be painless? probably but thats not something that i have any desire to do considering this creature was once in my care.

There's a freshwater tilapia on CL right now for $5. Apparently people aren't aware they aren't supposed to keep them.

same, that might be true for fish like snakeheads or reptiles like iguanas but not tilapia

Yeah... You can thank the government for wanting to bring in another species to provide more food
