Cushion

I have read on a couple of sites that it is a good idea to put styrafoam under heavy rocks to cushion it so that the weight doesnt crack the tank. Does anyone do this? And is it even worth doing?

I don't use Styrofoam, I use eggcrate or light diffuser from the hardware store.

Cool then I will have to run to Home Depot. How much do you use? one layer or more?

In a 6' I think I bought like 2-3 sheets of it....cut to fit the whole bottom of the tank.


It's there to spread the weight across the tank instead of having pressure points where the rock sits.

it also depends on how much weight you are stacking, if its smaller rocks and they arent stacked real tall then no biggie, but if its a big pile then its more of an issue.

yeah i always wondered where you get it from, cus i think im gonna use some on that 75 with the bigger boulders i have.

those things are made for grills on 2' x 4'  light fixtures in a drop ceiling, so look for them in the lighting section.

its called light defuser.i have used rocks up to 70 lbs for years and never had a problem.has any one ever had this happen personally?

Light Diffusers in the lighting....office/shop lighting area....they are stacked in the shelves in boxes sometimes.

You could just look through the isle yourself.....I didn't bother asking just in case I got some dumb response and it ened up being right there....to the right of the ceiling fans.

Well I went in on Sunday and asked since I had no idea where to look. The guy was like uh let me go ask then came back and said we have bubble wrap. I was like nevermind and left and told Soni that I bet its like right here somewhere but didnt feel like walking up and down the isles to find it. I might make a stop to HD after work.
