  • Red Chimba's

My new bunch of kids have blessed me with three new members to their colony. I noticed them yesterday during their end of day feeding. I saw the three little cuties darting in the holey rock. Guess now, I had better get that eel & catfish out of their tank, and maybe I'll get more from the next group....???

    Congrats Steve!

    Remove those predators!

I added smaller holed holey rock to my tank to provide a safe haven for fry to have a chance at survival and that has worked out great for me.

    Keep us updated!

I'd rather not disturb the colony too much. I thought about buying that hexagon tank for the fry tonight, but not sure I want to pull them out or away from the main colony. I know I am going to remove the catfish and eel tomorrow, but I think I will let the fry stay. I think I watched while another juvenile Chimba, watched over the new guys.....I don't know, maybe he was just curious about them???

I keep my babies in with the colony and there's no problem with getting food.

I let the algae grow and the fry are able to get to places the others can't. Also now that they are a bit bigger they are feeding from the top just like all the others.

FinFan you are correct... you are looking at Limestone rock which has been perforated over time by running water and have created these crevesis in the rock.

                    Re: Red Chimba's

I had to remove just about every piece of rock and the plastic plants, but I got those two baby eaters out of the tank. The tropheus are now sole owners of the water. I unfortunately did not see any other babies, just the three new fry, and by their size, I'd say they where about 2 weeks old too.

I'll try and get a pic soon.
