  • What freshwater fish are best for my water?

My water hardness is around 75 and the alkalinity is in the 8.0-8.5 range.
I am not picky about what fish, just want the water to be good for them.
My tank is a 55 gal. and has fully cycled. I am anxious to get some fish.

Depends on what you want. Tropical community. Semi aggressive. Cichlids. Africans, south Americans? Your levels will fluctuate and change from what you posted today by tomorrow. Got z pic of setup?

I don't have a pic. I prefer angels, but that is out of the question. I have had many cichlids in the past and would be happy with them.

My favorite would be tanganyikan cichlids.

Plenty to choose from. Many on this site keep trophs. And petros. If you have questions pm sunny.

Whats your setup? Decor? Substrate? Filtration? What kind of water change schedule can you afford?

I would prefer fish that would adapt well or are suitable to my current water conditions. If I can make alterations naturally, that would be ok. I have two 350 penguins and can run a canister. I can keep the water clean!

I have 3 decent sized holey rock, two power filters (one would be enough), a couple of power heads to keep water moving, stump for dec. and a sand floor.

You got a nice setup going it sounds like. Do you want one type fish same coloring of all or different multi colored fish?

Some variation would be nice. I used to breed both angels and cichlids years ago. I have had community, all same, etc.

Peacocks or mbuna from Malawi. If your stuck on tangs, two different variants of trophs.

I have never had any peacocks or mbunas. There is a lady in Beaumont that has plenty to choose from. The water should be comparable. Sounds good. Thanks for your help!!
