  • Starting My 90 Bowfront

Well I finally was able to get some time off from work. Tonight I sprayed Rustoleum rubber coating on the inside of the canopy so the moisture over a long period wont soak into the wood, or any splashing being since the aquarium doesnt have a lid other than the canopy itself. I have a wall that has a big opening between the living room and gameroom. I am setting the tank up on the gameroom side but will have it where about the upper 2/3's of the tank will show on the living room side. So I put some paneling on the rear part of the canopy and then some decorative trim across the top and then painted it all white with oil based paint to match the living room trim and chair rail. Turned out good so far. I put two coats on it and looks great. Tomorrow I plan on setting the tank up and let it cycle with no fish until I figure out what kind of fish I want to go look for around town haha. Here are pics of the canopy so far.

Just make sure your tank is even!!! With these bow front these are very easy to leak if one spot is stressed out too much.

I like the idea of the paneling in the back , but what about your hoses and wires ? How are you running them where they are not visible ? I also like the idea of the Rustoleum rubber coating on the inside of the canopy , I'm building a hood for a 40 gallon ,I may borrow your idea.Keep up the good work and keep us posted .

I'll get some pics up in a bit before I start. Yea the leveling should be pretty good but I'll check again, thanks for the reminder. I had a 72 bow in the same spot a few years ago but sold it and got out of the scene for a bit. Been wanting another tank since then so I said f it haha. The hoses and wires I'm gonna try to run along the sides of the tank so they are between the tank and the walls. I have like a 1"-2" gap on both sides of the tank. On my 72 I did this and u couldn't see any of the hoses or wires. I have to run a few errands and them the setup begins haha.

Ok so here is what I am putting together today. Now that the rain has stopped im fixing to go to the store to get food and then the fun begins. Already rinsed all the filter media and assembled, just have to run hoses to the desired length and put inline heater on. Hope to have this badboy up and running tonight, of course without fish for now. Have holey rock too but not sure how much I am going to put in it yet. Also still need to boil snail shells.

Ah... That makes so much more sense now. I was thinking about how you were going to have the hoses come off the sides of the tank and not be visible. Now I know. Looking good so far!

Oh and what's the storage drawer for? Are you just planning to use it for storage? Or are you going to make it into a wet/dry?

Just storage. Figured my Eheim will do everything I need it to. Though about trying that out but decided to keep it simple.

Just checked the level and one side is 1/4", if that, higher so I'm assuming that isn't enough to mater.

It probably will. Was thinking of making a larger wet/dry with the storage drawers as well. Seen them in action before and it's really cool! Just looks a bit tacky.

carpet or tile? It can and will matter over time. less= more time it will take but it can cause a tanks seals to shift.

I have to say im seriously considering building one of these. And depending on stock one eheim will not be enough. I try to run at least 2-3 filter for a hopeful 8-10 times filtration of the aquarium size.

Carpet but I also noticed when I pushed down on the high side it leveled. So one I get the sand and a little watter in it I'll push on the corners of the stand that are a little higher.

Yea I've seen them on YouTube and thought about it but I love Eheim haha. I'll end up prolly getting a 2217 to compliment my current filter.
