I want to go look for wild Texas cichlids

any ditch or bayou.

Most of the local creeks and bayous have them and tilapia as well. I've heard of them being caught in Spring Creek and Brazos Bend.

I have a creek behind me. Can I put and bait of some sort to catch them? I have caught baby catfish in it.

Yup ,bait and a hook, {try worms} casting net, fish trap. If the water is shallow enough ,maybe a simple net will work . Good luck and post pics ,let us know what you catch .

I have been fishing it off and on but so far it's a baby gar, some sort of catfish( it look like channel cat with spots but that's impossible where I am), and minnows. Can I feed those minnows to my cichlids ? I'm not going to feed them to my fish alot but once and a while.

I wouldn't feed wild-caught minnows to your fish at the risk of introducing parisites.

I would quarantine anything you catch. Our waters are pretty polluted and you don't know if the fish has some kind of disease or parasite that may transfer to your cichlids. Also, you mentioned you have one frontosa. Feeding them live fish will get them wanting to eat your fish that you are planning to put with them.

My creek is a great place for fish but I haven't seen any cichlids. But then again I haven't done a cast net!

Anchor worms are REALLY BAD around here, and are really hard to get rid of. I ended up dosing full strength quick cure (malachite green and formalin), and TRIPLE dose of copper to get rid of anchor worms in my native minnows.
