How many gallons does a perch/cichlids needs ?

  • #2
I don't know exactly what species you are talking about . Or are you talking about a wild perch that you caught in a lake or bayou ?

      You'll need to be more specific . . .
      Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

        1) look at your bank account

        2) determine how much you can live without

        3) hunt on the for sale forum

        4) get the biggest tank that can fit through your door wall
I ate my fish that died.

The bigger the better for most if not all fish .

They are right get the biggest tank you can. Im not certain what the minimum gallons per inch of fish would be. I kept one or two in a 30 for a little while but that was before I really knew much about keeping fish. I have a small one in a community 70 right now.

I would recommend starting off with some of the smaller species and seeing what you think, the larger ones ger crazy huge and need a lot of space and water. Try a Banded Pygmy Perch, easy to catch and only get <2" or try out a Pirate Perch (not really a perch, but ehhh). They are real oddballs of the fish world and what they lack in looks they make up in attitude and bizarreness while staying relatively small (4-5")
