says it all. CLR works, but is dangerous. i just use a razor blade to scrape the deposits off.

          This ^

There's not much to it. If the water stains are really bad, I would let the hot water and vinegar sit for a while before grabbing the razor.

I did a salt and vinegar paste and applied it to my tank, then I'm going to wait 15 minutes-30 minutes then I'm going to razor blade off the paste then repeat! Is this okay? Or I can get a hot towel and whip it off if that's better!

I've never dealt with vinegar paste so I wouldn't know. Curious to know why you're using salt? Hot water, vinegar, and a razor blade always worked for me.

not sure why you would use salt to remove salts?

i had some really bad ones and someone one here suggested soaking paper towels in CLR, placing on the stain, wrapping in plastic wrap so it doesnt evaporate, and leaving overnight. that got me to the point where the razor wasnt such a br00tal task.

Was thinking the exact thing! Adding salt won't remove salt. A bottle of vinegar isn't that expensive either. I think it was $3-5 for a gallon?

I gotta try out my scraping skills with a razor bade I've got a few new tanks with some hefty deposits. Your def not gonna get it all off your first go with vinegar.

You could if you soak the tank long enough.

i have had deposits from an ex SW tank that no amount of vinegar would remove. i ended up using pool pH down which is HCl (hydrochloric acid). vinegar is diluted HCl and often called muriatic acid if i recall correctly. HCl is really aggressive stuff though so dont take it lightly. A ventilation mask, fans, goggles, and the proper long gloves are a must.

WOW! a 135g tank for $200.00 and it is clean! Most people would have just been happy to get a cheap tank.

And salt will help remove limescaling. Hydrochloric acid will clean everything off the glass but vinegar will to. With out cleaning the skin off your bones.

But elbow grease has to be used... (you have to work on it)
