  • Repashy - the superfood

I was talking to Rachel (msjinkzd) last week and she gave me some tips on using Repashy fish foods.

    1. If you reheat it after it sets it will re-liquify and harden again when it cools, so if it sets too quick the first time you can try again.
    2. You can take small pieces of mopani wood or coarse rock and dip it in the hot Repashy. After it sets you can keep the coated pieces in the refrigerator and drop in the tank when it's time to feed. I found this very useful for the gobies and hillstreams.
    3. The first time I used it I tried pouring into plastic ice cube trays. It set too quickly and the ones that did mold correctly were too big for a single feeding and had to be sliced down to smaller sizes. Now I use a cookie sheet with a layer of saran wrap on it. When I take the hot Repashy out of the microwave I pour onto the saran wrap, let it set then cut the 1/8" thick sheet into the size pieces I want with a butter knife.
    4. I freeze a week's worth in individual freezer baggies and thaw when needed.

Just some tips I've found useful. Feel free to share any you've come up with. I think this Repashy is the next new innovation in our hobby... on the order of wet/dry filters when they first came out.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Sunny let me try some he got from John(HAW) and the fish LOVES it even my Malawi loves this thing!!!

How sunny showed me was just pour it in a rubbermaid with lid and cut into cubes. I was thinking about the ice cube tray but I saw that it was too much for the little stock that I have. The size of the food just really depends on your tank stock. People with big petros might find the ice trays better use than we do.

If you're talking about the standard ice cube tray, those may be too big. Ikea sells these smaller ice cube trays that are shapes for $1. Not quite sure if that will make much of a difference but you could try?

Cool off on a hot day with homemade popsicles or fun shaped ice cubes. Use IKEA's popsicle molds, ice cube trays, and ice cream scoops to treat the family.

I'm using an ice cube tray for a minifridge, I found it @ the thrift store, for $.25

Depending on the tank I'm feeding, I may cut the small cubes into smaller pieces.

would an old tray from frozen bloodworms be strong enough to make repashy cubes? i would think so and i might try that. i havent tried anything but the fruitfly media and the gutloading stuff but it looks like a quality product. the superpig has been recommended to me by many people, especially for feeding fry or tadpoles so the adults color up better.

The rephasy comes out pretty hot so idk if those plastic trays can handle the heat so it might melt but I might be wrong.

It's really simple. You can even use the Togo containers that you get during Asian takeout. Hahahah that what I used until I found a Tupperware
