By tonight she still doesn't look any better, maybe even a little worse. She is now not eating and is in a breeder net by her self. She is with 6 other yellow labs two of which are males. I have not had a fish death in well over a year but I think I may have one in the next few days if not sooner. Being that they don't back their fish I most likely will not be back.
if its big like you say then it has been living fine in the store. its something in your tank causing it. there is no reason to blame the store
dont bro me if you dont know me!!!!!

Sounds like you're at fault and not the store...

As stated by you and other posters it may be my fault. I have not changed anything around but then again at the same time after observing the fish for hours from a distnace (so I didnt scare them) I haven't seen any agression.

One poster said if its a large fish it must be fine becuase it has been growing the the fish store for a wile. That may be true but they had all different sizes and I'm sure they don't grow them out from young fish and then try to sell them. When I picked up this fish she had good color but seemed to be alittle under weight as her stumach was turned in, and not nice and plump like my current stock.

So I don't know it may be me and my husbantry, right now she is still hanging on to life in the breeding net. so if she continues to improve I will set up a small tank to let her fully recover and then I will try it again after turning all my other fishes life upside down.

How long did you observe the fish? Did you also observe them with lights out? I know my fish tend to get juvenile when I cut out the lights. I lost 2-3 fish due to this. I watched them with the lights on from afar and they got along fine. Then there was an incident where my fish and the new fish got along for a while and then one day they snapped and killed the other.

If the fish's stomach was sunken, why'd you buy it? Or at least you could've bulked up the fish a little before introducing it into the tank. I don't know if it was an aggression issue or health issue, but just because the fish is larger, doesn't exclude it from being vulnerable to illness or injury just as any other fish.

Are you using anything to help your fish recover?

I think the thing to remember is that your dealing with a live animal that can be much harder to keep than your typical cat or dog. When dealing with live animals there can be all kinds of illnesses or disease that are no ones fault or possibly go unnoticed until its too late. The fish could have been sick while at the store and it wasn't visible or it could have simply been stressed by the move.

Thanks for your insight. I have been keeping salt water fish for a wile and knew all of this but didn't think it was the same for yellow labs being that they are spost to be pretty friendly fish. As of right now I am treating the tank with Melafex, the bottle says its good for tail rot and for adding new fish.

As far as purchasing the fish with her stomach sunken, I did think about it a bit, but I really liked her color and most of the fish that I have purchased looked that way when I purchased them. So I was pretty confident that I could fatten her up just like I have been able to do with my other fish.

Anyway lesson learned and she does seem to be better now. Her color is coming back, she is no longer milky looking, her fins are still pretty bad but that will take some time to turn around.

I don't know about yellow labs being friendly... I had one temporarily housed in my 30 grow out tank with my dithers and he'd try to nip them but fails each time since they're fast. I was a bit confused though... one day he'll try to nip them and the next he'll school with them. One confused fish...

I generally use salt for majority of my problems. It heals injuries and calms the fish. That's good that the fish is healing up!

Ya forgot to mention I put in some sea salt last night as well. But I have been doing that for a wile now.
