  • Why not give a try.

I have a pair of discus (and another that's about to become a pair-under observation) that have been laying eggs couple of times a week for the past several months.I just ignored them,in fact I posted it here a while ago that I'd like to trade them to someone who would like to breed (of course since they are pair I'd like 3 adults in exchange and depends on the color).Anyhow, while I was observing them laying eggs again tonight,It comes to my mind why not give it a try to breed them. Can someone give me a hint how to succesfully breed them?I started searching online, but personnal experienced is highly appreciated.I'm planning to buy some stuff that I needed soon.Thanks.

From the little that I know, discus need lower PHs around 6.0 for the eggs to actually hatch. I'm not a big chemical buff, but I do know that certain bottled waters will help lower the PH. I think the distilled water does the trick. Good luck. I'm sure discus breeding is rewarding.

HAW is a really nice place to visit. John (Murray on HFB) has tons of supplies, plants and various South American fish that you don't normally see at other LFS. He's got great prices on everything too!

Thank you all for your inputs.I will carefully do my homework before plunging into this, specially with the water chemistry.I have a RO filtration system that I kept when I tore down my reef system which I think will help me with water issues.

Miguel, when I was learning how to take care of Discus,Dan told me not to worry about breeding because they need a different kind of care. Now that I "kinda" master how to take care of this beautiful fish I'd like to "try" to moved on to the next step. We'll see.Ya,you're right I need to talk to this guy.LOL.Regards my friend.
