I was wrong. I had it backwards. The best biological filtration occurs in the wet dry filter because the water is exposed to both air and water.210gPetrochromis Macrognatus Green 'Nsumbu

Smh. Hahaha
I say just the fx5. It's better at polishing water than the WD and it does basically what the wet dry does or even better since its a small tank it will remove debris/ particles out of the water better than a WD

I say FX5. I know a guy with a single FX5 on a 210 with wild caught yellow moshi and red rainbow. Not what I prefer but obviously it works for him.210gPetrochromis Macrognatus Green 'Nsumbu

My vote goes for the wet/dry. But since you already have a FX5, why not just go with that? Both are already going to overfilter a 40B regardless of what you decide.

IMHO, Just use what you have.
FX5 will be plenty good and the flow will be ok for the Malawi.
You can always adjust the flow of the FX5 due to the "valve" it has on it.
In addition, if you happen to have a mag 3 or 5, the impeller for the mag 7 fits the mag 3 or 5.
Then you will have a mag 7.
no need to spend money unless you really want a wet dry then you can trade someone for the FX5.
Goodluck.
