If someone has a ProClear 300 wet/dry(with or without pump) I would be willing to trade the Fx5 for that. Mag 7's are cheap new so not interested in trading for just a small pump.

ya, its was an Eshopps 300 which I contacted the guy about but it sold really quick. Plus the Eshopps is 2" wider and not sure if it would fit through my stand doors.

FX5 will be plenty good and the flow will be ok for the Malawi.
You can always adjust the flow of the FX5 due to the "valve" it has on it.

In addition, if you happen to have a mag 3 or 5, the impeller for the mag 7 fits the mag 3 or 5.
Then you will have a mag 7.
no need to spend money unless you really want a wet dry then you can trade someone for the FX5.
            Goodluck.

+1 The impeller for the mag7 fits the mag5. I'm not quite sure about the mag 3 though. A simple purchase of a mag5 pump and a mag7 impeller will turn your mag 5 into a mag 7 for much less. Then you could sell the mag5 impeller or keep it as a back up in case something were to happen to the upgraded impeller.

depending on how you set up your wet/dry there are heavy pros either way.

IMHO... Wet/dry with filter socks and media submersed and emersed would out perform a canister any day.
Plus you get the surface skimming of the overflow to remove protein buildup as well as added oxygenation.

All that is lacking with a canister no matter how you set it up.
