Burning Out.

I think I'm burning out. My first pet fish was at 4 years old, and I've been a serious hobbyist for 30+ years. Over the last 25 years I can probably say that I've gone less than 3 months without a single fish. But over the last week or so, even with some new breeder angelfish I bought, I've not been as excited. Just with in the last 2 days, I feel like getting rid of everything. I feel more excited about getting on the forums and seeing what everyone elese is keeping. I'm just not as excited anymore about keeping them myself, if that makes sense. Maybe I need a break from the hobby.

Sorry to hear but I think we all go through the same phase. Sometimes it's good to get out so then you can realize how much you miss it. That often leads to a greater gratitude when you get back in. I'm not a big fan of angelfish and my Africans keep me on my feet, so maybe you should try getting something with more attitude.

i have been feeling the same way. I have been breeding angelfish for a long time. Now I am starting something New. Learning more always keeps me going. Right now I am down sizing. I will only have one Angel tank. My wifes puffers. And my Geophagus tank. I am going to store all the others. So if I want to start breeding again someday. I can...

I feel your pain I left the hobby a few yrs back although not completely I had some guppies that seemed to live forever and then one day the spark came back and to keep that spark now I do things that go against the grain as far as mainstream aquarist thing

If you have lost that spark for fish that makes you excited and happy. The best thing to do is leave the hobby completely meaning no forums, or tanks or anything that has to do with fish. It will be hard but worth it when a year from now you find yourself excited again to keep fish then get back into it man. We all go through this phase some are longer than others..

Thanks for the comments. I think, I'm just gonna go with getting rid of all my tanks except my son's panda guppy colony in a 5 gallon tank. My baby boy likes looking at them. I may go down to the fish gallery and trade in my fish for in store credit unless anyone wants them and then sell my few remaining tanks. I'll keep the filters. I still enjoy the forums. I like seeing everyones pics. Esp. Sunny's petros and can follow Nightster's progress on his. And Mistahoo's posts on his killies. That's been more exciting than the keeping my own fish, to tell the truth. I also have to get my house sold. I'm trying to move to Conroe or the Woodlands, closer to work.

I would say put the tanks into storage if they're big tanks. You'll regret trying to find big tanks again (it'll take a good while) when you come back into the hobby. As for fish, that sounds like a good idea or sell them here.

Angelfish are gone. Tanks are empty. I put my 75 gallon and 40 breeder up for sale. I'm hanging on to my filters and my some of my nano tanks. It feels weird. Today I went to Fish Gallery, and left without buying anything, LOL.

Everyone told you to leave so they can just buy your stuff! j/k. Why the quick move? Not sure if angels is all you kept, but maybe a change in type of fish or sw? I had fun building my 260g SW. Maybe a good project that will take you a while to work on?

Thanks for the advice.
Did saltwater before. Had several tanks. Everything from 210 SW with anemones and coral to pico tanks. Had seahorses, clown goby and dwarf goby collection, harlequin shrimp (killed off lots of starfish). Got bored. Had salt everywhere. Eventually, I got bored.
