I would say a eheim 2215/2217 either of those would be good

If the AquaClear 70 is working fine for you then keep using it . But if you have a heavy fish load and the AquaClear 70 can't keep up with the bio-load or with the mechanical filtration.....then maybe it's time to look into a canister filter . Also , keep in mind that you can increase the performance of that AquaClear in certain areas by simply increasing the desired filtration media . For instance , if your water isn't as clear as you would like....you can add filter floss (quilt batting) to the AquaClear . This also applies to your bio-media. I personally , prefer canisters over HOB because of the sure quantity of media that I can add to the filter .

In my opinion a canister will out perform a HOB. Set up properly it will handle a larger bio load and polish your water better. You may want to consider the Ehiem 2213 or even the Mag 350. Both can be found on this site used. I am sure there will be other opinions. Good luck

+1, the 2213 would be a great choice, maybe even the 2215. I would use the 2217 due to the flow rate being to high for most smaller fish. I tried it on a mbuna fry setup and it just blew the fry around.

the aquaclear keeps my water clear i run 2 sponges with biomax but i dont like having to clean it constantly to get maximum flow,i think im gonna go with the 2215 i think that would be perfect for my set up,and what about fluval are there canisters as good as the eheim?

              canister filters?

That's a matter of opinion. I have used both and fluval IMO ain't got a thing on an eheim.

It truly depends on your livestock and bioload. An AC 70 should be more then adequete and can also be run in unison should you desire to. If you are experiancing flow issues, simply pack it with biomedia and run your canister as a mechanical/bio and your additional AC70 for added bio support. We usually always have multiple filters on our tanks and they come in handy when you get a new tank and need an established filter, presto instant cycle.

You will still have to clean or replace the filter padding in the Eheim. The Eheim classic 2215 is the best choice. If you have slow swimmers maybe the 2213.
Note IMO. If it isn't broke don't fix it...

Honestly its your decision but there are tons of different canisters so it is something you have to sit down and think about

Good choice . I would suggest the Classic line over all the rest . The Classic line up is pretty much bullet proof and are what Eheim built it's reputation on .
