Re: how to prevents fungus on fish eggs
Well, apparently Drs. Foster and Smith sell it...
But I'm pretty sure I got my last bottle from FishRanch. I don't remember the brand name, but just look in the medication section and you should find it. Or better yet, just ask Charles! :)
Cameo, do you really add that much methylene blue? I usually add about half of what the bottle recommends, and I've never had a problem with staining the silicone blue (although the sink's a different story!). But I also tend to be a bit overly cautious with anything I add to aquariums.
Killifish people usually have experience with preventing fungus on eggs. I have read that some just throw the eggs in a tank with water from the tap, no dechlorinator, which they claim prevents fungus. I've done this as well, although it was kinda long ago and I don't remember if anything bad happened...hmm...But after a few days, especially if you have some circulation in the tank, the chlorine will have gone away and the eggs can hatch safely.
Until you can get some methylene blue, I'd just watch the eggs carefully and remove any that have fungus so it doesn't spread to the good eggs. What kind of cories, by the way??
Also, just to add, like ek said, fungus happens with "bad eggs," or infertile eggs.
But, Spot, if you have the eggs in with the fry, I'd probably add just a drop or two of the methylene blue if you can get your hands on any. Two drops might be too much for 3 gallons, though. Not sure. If they should hatch tomorrow, you might not even need to worry too much about it, and just do a water change or two.
Good luck! And congrats on the babies!
