  • Cleaning river rock

Need to clean about 15 river rocks that have old algae growth.

Don't want to use clorox if it can be avoided.

    Suggestions or or ideas needed.

    Thanks

Dry it out and place in a dark place for a long time. If you don't have all the time in the world, get H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) and soak the rocks in it. I only use bleach to kill off everything on something if it's been in with parasites, fungus, diseases, or if I had no clue where it came from.

OP doesn't wanna use bleach. If you do bleach, soak it in bleach for 24 hours and then soak it in dechlorinator for another 48 hours. Unless you wanna be extra safe, you can soak for a week or more.

Get u a heavy duty scrub brush with some Dawn dish soap and go at it. Use hot water. Iv done it before works well if ur throwing out the bleach idea. Just make sure rocks are rinsed well.

You'd be surprised at how resilient algae is. I got some equipment with algae dried off for a while and it would come back to life. You could bake the rocks and scrub them off as well. Boiling works great. There's a bunch of other options to bleaching.

Boiling is a nice choice might as well kill all the pathogen in there.

dont waste your time doing all of that with boiling and scrubbing. Power wash them and it will come off like butter
