I have a large piece of driftwood that I'd like to put in my 100. Actually it's in there now, but somehow the aquascape isn't quite what I had in mind as its floating at the top, only submerged at by the crosspiece in the middle of the top of the tank.
I pressure blasted it last weekend, but don't really have anything big or deep enough to boil it. I'm thinking that boiling it would help disinfect it (just in case) and the heat from boiling would cause any air in it to expand, release, and then contract when it cools down - to the point where I can simply use some slate if it doesnt readily sink. Right now I think I would have to fasten about 25 or 30lbs to it to sink it.
So if anyone out there has a large boiler I could beg, borrow, or rent it would be greatly appreciated. The wood is about 3.5' long, 14-16" tall at it's highest point.
The other option...
Ideas welcome on aquascaping with a floating log :). I think getting light to the plants would be the hardest thing about that tho. I've yet to find bright underwater plant lighting and sunglasses for fish.
