Hello, my name is graham and I really would like to start a Large fresh water fish tank! I have kept a betta for about 5 years now and some small cichlids but I know that's the easy stuff! Can anybody point me in the direction to buy a large fish tank? I was thinking about 100 gallons. What is a good price for a used tank and stand, thanks Houston fish box! :)

Welcome Graham! This site and craiglist are gonna be your best bet in landing a tank that size. A tank is only worth how much you would like to spend, but for 100 gallon tank and stand I'd expect to pay around $300, maybe even less if you find a great deal. Johnnytrihn was selling a 135 with tank stand and canopy for $300 recently. What kind of fish are you planning to keep?

Welcome to the box! There's also local fish stores that sell tank and stand combos. Sometimes it's ridiculously expensive sometimes it's very cheap

What's up Graham ? Welcome to the Box !! You should be able to find a tank that size at most of your local fish stores . I personally would try City Pets and/or Fish Ranch as they usually have good prices on tanks . This is if you are looking to buy brand new . If you want to save a lot of money ....you can just keep an eye on the Fish Market forum on this site ...and get yourself a used tank . Continue to explore the site and read current and old threads . If you have any questions......just start a thread and you will get plenty of great advice .

It's also if you're looking to buy used. City Pets, Fish Ranch II, and Fish Gallery all get used tanks every now and then. When they do get them, they sell for a decent price

Hi Graham. Welcome to the Box.

ADG is also a great place to pick up used tanks from. Check the Aquarium Design Group section in the retailer forums, I just posted by nice 90 gallon now getting package for ADG.

Keep an eagle eye on the equipment for sale/trade section because tanks come up for sale very regularly.

Forgot about ADG. They'll have great packages for sale often. As for schooling fish, any clue what kind or from where (africa, s.a., Asia, etc)? This place is the mecca of tropheus and petrochromis. They're schooling fish as well.

Welcome to the Box! Graham. Some of the sponsors, Like CityPets will give you Great deals on new stuff. When you buy everything from them. Remember its not just a tank and stand. Its lights pumps filters and care tools. Then there is the Scape. Pluss the Fish. If you buy used some time you can get a great deal on everything but if you have to go buy peases and parts it can start to cost more and be a pain in the @$$.

http://www.houstonfishbox.com/vforum...ice-drop-12-16 This is the tank that they were talking about. I like the tank personally and I have thought about buying it several times. But I don't really need another large tank set up just yet. It isn't the greatest deal but it isn't the worst by far.
