Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

It's a giant danio that i used to cycle the tank. There is actually 2 of them from the original group of 4.

Don't really fit in but they are part of the tank.

I'm starting to see some brown algae growth on my limestone rock.

Thought led lights didn't cause algae growth issues. Wow did I read something wrong.

What's the best thing to attack brown algae? I need a herd quick.

Brown algae can grow in low lighting so it's not really about the lights. Longer lighting schedules can aggravate it though. How many hours are you running your LEDs daily?

Here's a link you may want to review:

I would reduce your light schedule. Scrub your rocks outside the tank. Do weekly water changes. Reduce feeding. Get some bn plecos from TangoMike.

People get the brown algae in new tank set ups mainly.

I think I got the brown algae when I changed from gravel to sand back in 2005. It took a few months to get it in check......then I started getting the regular green algae. My plecos have been able to keep my holey rock pretty clean of it.

Thanks. I'll reach out to TangoMike.

For whatever reason i have a green thumb with plecos. Everything else lives for years.

Might go for a couple of siamese algae eaters. Have had luck with them in the past.

Brown algae can grow even with LEDs. They can and will thrive in even very low light tanks. Generally appears in new tanks or if you do a huge change like swapping your substrate. Just lower the time your lights are on. Adding plecos will increase waste in your tank. I find plecos counter-productive at keeping the tank clean. I do love plecos though! Smaller algae eaters would be better, or nerites if you don't mind snails

                              I like the nerite suggestion.

Do you know where I can get some?

I might try to stop by Fish Gallery later on this morning.
