There were some in the shrimp and small fish section....not many, but they were there.

its bad. I'm thinking about taking it out and growing it in a seperate tank for a while. I know i've heard of someone doing it in a shallow plastic container, but I can't find the thread. Anyone have it bookmarked?
I think the combination of my 2 bolivian rams, roseline shark, and amano shrimp ripping it up along with the lack of proper lighting is really hurting it.
So if i can get it going with shoplights about 6-10" above, i'd be able to drop in a full carpet. *shrug*
Tom talks about growing it in the tank it's gonna be in and then just fill the tank with the rest of the water.....
What you describe sounds like trying to grow an emersed culture.
my HC is already in submerged form. I dont want to go back to emerge.
I'm thinking of setting up more favorable HC conditions in a fishless container. I have a bag of flourite that i never used in my tank. So maybe that in a simple plastic storage container (they have some really shallow ones that are supposed to fit under the bed) with a powerhead for water movement. 90w shoplights will be no more than 6 inches above the HC as opposed to the 24" now in the tank.
I'd just set up a timer and dose with excel. Maybe even some yeast Co2.
let it grow for a couple weeks, and then replant it in the tank.
But then it would still need to be planted little by little again or do you plan on burying the whole container in your tank? and then wouldn't it not die off again from lack of lighting?
As it is, i'm paying 18$ for 3 pots at FG.
yea, if i can get my own little stash growing nicely, i'd replant it in the tank. Hopefully in the time it would take to grow it, i'll get some lights. And by having soooo much in my "stash" the rams and shrimp could eat all they wanted to.
I don't think your rams and shrimp are eating it till it dies but I get what you are planning to do. You could try floating it cause that worked for me when I wasn't ready to plant my HC.
I second floating it. No need to go through all that trouble. Ive grown HC floating and its pretty easy given the right parameters. HC LOVES CO2 and high light. If you can figure those two out, youre set.

I think the main thing that helps HC is the high co2....then the super high light is needed to keep it hugging the ground, basically with any plant really but more so with HC/Foreground plants.
