    Planning a Trip to Lake Tanganyika???

    I would like to get some input on planning a diving trip to Lake Tanganyika. Unfortunately I keep running into road blocks and was wondering if anyone has contacts or information on how to plan such a trip. I would like to Fly there, have lodging and a guide who could take Imagirlgeek and myself diving in areas where we could see Troophs in their natural habitat. Any info would be appriciated.

    all i know is that you'd need shots before you went diving in their waters. i was told that the various amounts of foreign bacteria can get in your system and make you sick. i too would like to dive in that lake one day

      Yeah, we'll need shots for the insects as well. The dangers seem to be infections, aligators and water cobras. But other than that and potential African rebels along the border of South Africa, everything I've read seems to indicate the diving is amazing and there are an unlimited number of cichlids to see. Okay, maybe not "Unlimited" but certainly more than we could see in 10 days.

                  yeah if you happen to dive right into a colony of cichlids i dont think they would hesitate to make a snack out of you.  or otters like in the national geographic jewels vid

                      Yeah, we're not talking about just flying to Africa, putting on some swim suits and diving in!  

                      Like, I would never go jump into water full of stingrays just out of the blue, but in Grand Cayman they have that boat that takes you out, prepares you on how to handle the animals, and then lets you go out and swim with them and feed them.  That has been the most amazing aquatic experience of my life to date.  Maybe Lake Tanganyika would have something like that??

                      It was just a thought we had since we went straight back to work after getting married and never had a proper honeymoon.  And it sure isn't going to be something we would do, like, next week or something.  I think he was just wanting to see if anyone else had done any research into a vacation like this.  I'm not too keen on getting a bunch of shots to keep me from getting some weird disease, however, if anyone out there had done something like this then maybe you could offer some tips.  So far I'm totally freaked out!!

                              Honestly, I haven't been doing too much of the research.  That's been imaguygeek's project.  But that's exactly the stuff we are looking for.  Thanks!
