Oh my gosh!  Definitely!  I am a camera addict....we just bought a new camera primarily for fish pics, and I've already taken so many pictures of the fish here at the house that my family makes fun of me.    So, IF we went to Africa, there would be so many pics that you guys would be "OKAY!  Enough with the pics!  DANG!!!"

I second that...and I'm pretty jealous about the Grand Caymen trip, too.

Re: Planning a Trip to Lake Tanganyika???

Okay, so let me start by saying that I have been diving since I was young. I've dived in Mexico, Guam while I lived there, Dominican Repblic while living there and Florida while living there along with many freshwater lake dives in Lake Travis (much less interesting). So I am no stranger to diving trips and the safety required for a trip like this.

I was looking for anyone who may have taken a trip to the area and could recomend somewhere like the PADI lodge Zulaab suggested (Thank you Zulaab) where we could find a local Dive guide.

If anyone knows of any local dive shops that arrange trips like this, that would be helpful as well as they would know of dive guides on the lake.

The last thing I want is to spend the rest of my days being taunted by my wife and her family about the time I planned a trip that resulted in parasites or worse... A near miss with a Hippo  8O

Re: Planning a Trip to Lake Tanganyika???

The only dive shops I know of are in Dallas, but I'm sure you can find something good around here (I looked on the PADI website and they're pretty useless for local dive shops).

I know I'm young and still have time and I'm actually in the process of bugging my parents about more dive trips in the future :)

Especially back to Florida because they used to go a lot when I was too young to dive, but I have been to Cozumel and Belize which were very nice :)

Good luck geek couple, sounds like y'all are going to have a ton of fun :)

I went diving over at the barrier reef in Cancun....it's pretty fun!

The scary part though is surfacing, looking around and not seeing anything but open water 8O

Also need to be aware, not freaked out, that
                      A) you won't see any alligators, the crocodiles ate them all
                      B) Africa is chock full of diseases, parasites, and if it's a lake it may not refresh itself,so sewage from the native population, etc, would remain in the water. So, the few shots, etc you would wisely get would ensure your living to be as old as myself. I know I am showing my geographical ignorance of the Lake.
                      C) why not? There are cichlids who may have never seen a white man with a face mask and flippers. That alone would make the journey worthwhile!
Seriously, Africa can give you so much; let it be the most memorable dive of your life, not the worst you've ever been sick.
Mzungu has been there, check with her maybe.
(ask her what Mzungu means, you may hear the word a lot!)
