It funny most puffer fish have names. The water puppy as it is sometimes called always gets a name.
Sorry Ally. I should have known who kiff was. The puffer looks like a kiff....
i've noticed a really cool thing he does!!! (by the way, madugo, do you know the sex of the fish? or is there any way to tell?) kiff will orient him/herself vertically, perpendicular to the sand, and blow small jets of water at the sand itself to gently sort of "dig", then examine the shallow pit he just created. :) i'm thinking he is hunting baby MTS. also, he's not alone! the rainbow shark will often be right next to him, eagerly nibbling at the cloud of particles kiff stirs up. this does not seem to bother the "aggressive" puffer in the slightest, either! he doesn't seem to care. :)
I dont think there is a very sure way to tell the sex of these guys...i dont know the sex of my mbu either...
The action is associated with searching/hunting clams/snails in the sand...
the tank was heavy with MTS when i brought him home, all gone now. :) i also have breeding apple snails and ramshorns, and yesterday i added a group of guppies (that i really don't care what happens to) to the tank, that sure was fun! kiff showed me he can be quick when he wants to! rainbow shark is fine as of now.. still no problems. a big thank you to lookslater and mnemenoi for stopping by and inadvertently helping spot a little bulldog pleco who i didn't even know was still in the tank hiding behind a filter... he was gonna have a problem as both the bigger fish were attacking him! i scooped the little guy out and he's happy and safe in my 29g now. :)
