  • Everybody has a tale to tell ! Whats yours ?

So iv been thinking about this lately seeing how theres so many great people here on this forum, and like me we all love fish. But iv allso thought what got us to where we are now , how did we get into the hobby and keeping aquariums.

My beginning started at a younger age around about 10 or so. I remember going to a wal-mart in Santee California "back when they had decent fish setups" and i saw eels in a tank. It was about a 90 gal. They were freshwater snowflake moray eels. And i was fascinated! Being a young kid i wanted one. So a few years pass and my parents buy me a 10 gal. Very first tank. I went thru the stages of fish from tetras to dwarf groumies to sm spiny eels, and finally i was like i was a bigger tank damit! Saved up and got me a 55. And i knew i had to start new and there was something i wanted.....yup that snowflake eel. That got me in south Americans for a while, clown knifes, jacks, fire mouths, texas. Then i moved in with my dad traded all those way oversized fish in and became interested in smaller African cichlids, malawi fish.
Kept those for a few years never bread any but had a bunch in that 55. Then me n dad moved, im about 17 now and we got an apt. Started back with the Malawi again and then it happened ......i got my fish med sized frontosa. Game over....lol
So since the age of about 19 iv been HOOKED on Tanganyika cichlids. Now im 28 and still absolutely love these guys! So theres where my hobby began , its such a fun and rewarding hobby and im very happy i was brought int this forum lots of very nice people/friends and the experiences are awesome as well.

So how did u get started in fish keeping. Whats ur story. I thought this might be a cool way to see how we all got here.

When I was 8 we lived in Hawaii. For my 8th birthday my dad bought a regular old 10g tank, went down to the ocean and brought home water and little fish he had caught (I have no idea what kind they were) and believe it or not those fish lived until a neighbor came to visit with her toddler. That kid poured the whole can of fish food in and they died.

First love is salt, but it's an expensive hobby so we've stuck with fresh. Working on a planted puffer tank right now and a planted nano.
