  • 10,000 MH light for fresh water?

Can you use a MH light for fresh water tanks?

I have some old equipment from my past experiences with saltwater tanks. If not, maybe I can post it all on the "For Sale" forum to trade but I would like to use them if I can since I know of their history.

Yes you can use a 10k mh for freshwater. Makes a very nice shimmer effect.

Of course. I'm actually planning to do the same!

I will be asking a lot more questions in the future... such as what equipment do I need ... I know a lot of saltwater info but fresh water is a whole new ball game for me. Do I need a skimmer on fresh water?

No need for a skimmer but a wet dry filter will be nice

MH lights are awesome. Not that bad on heat. I have 4 tanks with MH.

                  including one with 2 x 400 watts.

                  best look out there IMO

I agree, nothing beats the look of MH.

I've dabbled with the LEDs and it still isn't on par with MH (LoL, no pun intended)

I guess, they do look amazing. But i rather not deal with heat and energy consumption

LED has been the close second and with the pros of lower energy consumption and less radiated heat it makes for a very close second.

i will be doing a DIY 3w UP Stars for my new tank after playing with it on my little nano SW tank I've gotten a better grasp of "full spectrum" setups.
