We'll have to agree to disagree on that one :) I always had quick disconnects on my 2217s and still had problems half the time getting it started up. On the flip side you can't beat Eheim quality. They do a great job and will last forever. It's just too much of a pain for me.
Never had to prime mine after the first time. I just close the disconnects then unplug it. Then when I'm ready to start up again I plug in and open the intake first then open the return. Always works.
I understand everyone here thinks Eheim is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I'm only speaking from my own experience and my experiences haven't been that great. I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying eheim, but there's plenty of other valid options out there.

Of course there are plenty of valid options. It's just that ehiem is just so great. When I recommend canister filters, it's always the ehiem classics. There's fluval, marineland, etc. But imo, none of those come close.
It cool, im with u guys, thekarens. I dont own nor have i ever, used an ehiem. I use all fluvals my self and many hobs for room savers. I love my fx5 works great for me, and i got a few 406's too that i had going. And personally those green hoses look bad ...lol

Okay peeps, dead horse...
I opened the thread to hear about Big Al's...not about filter preference. Everyone can be happy with their own choice. At my age I've long since given up caring what other people think, though I appreciate the advice.
And I've been keeping fish for about 10 years. There's a lot I don't know, but I'm not 100% clueless.
