  • Holey rock question

I set up my 65g last night and had the python resting against the rock as I was filling the tank and a milky white substance came out.

A little background...about 2 weeks ago I bleached the rocks 1/10 bleach to water ratio. They sat in that solution for one day and have been sitting in clean water since, which I changed out every couple of days. Before putting the rocks in the tank I also sprayed them with the hose on "jet."

I wondered if this was normal for that kind of rock. I emptied the tank back out and refilled it with the python hitting the wood instead of the rock and I didn't get the milky white stuff. I was thinking maybe it was the water pressure making rock debris come out?

I've never used holey rock, so I wasn't too sure on how it reacts, etc.

It's prolly fine but I would add some Prime to the tank to be safe. Also maybe just add a "test" batch if fish before throwing in everyone.

Thanks Randall :) I added some Prime last night and I'll pick up some feeders or equivalent to test drive the tank. I'm eventually going to put in labs and demasoni and although they aren't rare or overly expensive I'd still hate to waste the money.

Just use some endlers or guppies so the labs could eat them so that you don't have to try and catch them out.

Limestone while being a very hard rock can sometimes have a thin layer that breaks down overtime. I've seen it happen it's no big deal and if bad your filter should clear it up.
