  • Wet Dry or Eheim

What items do you consider when you try to decide whether to use a wet dry filter or an eheim?

I am about to start the build on a 100 gal that will be sitting in my main living area. Part of my concern is sound and I know the eheim will be dead silent and I'm pretty sure the wet dry will have a little noise but maybe not too much if I use an in sump pump.

I have both a large wet dry and the eheim so I'm not going to use cost as a determining factor on this.

    Thanks for the input.

Not all wet drys are loud. One in my room is dead silent but the pump is pretty weak. Mag 7. I'm with Sunny. Use both. Polishes water better and fish will be happier.

+1 more. Use both. I do.
Its always the overflow that makes a little noise.

LOL! Thanks! Not really the answer I was looking for but I do see the merits for using both. Get the best of both worlds.

What if I didn't already have both. Other than, "go buy the other one and use both", how would you answer the question?

I think its preference and ease of use. I prefer canisters due to having a good familiarity with them and not being nearly as familiar with Wet/Dry sumps. I have heard many state that they are terrific and wonderful filters, I just proabably need sunny to come over and motivate us into using one, lol. Each has merits and flaws.

Eheim. Quieter, filtration isn't water level dependent, and it can't make things worse if you have to unplug it (i.e. no flooding)

In the garage I would not hesitate to use a wetdry. For inside I prefer canisters.

Both since you have them but if you didnt I would say canister easier to use and silent

Both... no such thing as over filtration

If you didn't have both, I would go with the canister. I hate the noise from the overflow, but most of the time I don't notice it.

Wet Dry. I'm used to the water noise by now, and I don't like Eheim. (I know...I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't like them.)
